Milton James ULMER

Milton was the fifth child born to Alfred and Martha Munsch Ulmer onthe family farm east of Fullerton, North Dakota. He finished eighthgrade at Yorktown Township School #3 before graduating from FullertonHigh School in 1947. He then enrolled at the Normal & IndustrialCollege (NI) in Ellendale but left school in 1949 to farm with hisdad. While at Ellendale he met Avelon Borgen who became his wife in1951. They set up a mobile home near the home farm house andcontinued to farm with Milton's dad. In 1956 they moved into the mainhouse as Milton's parents sold him the farm and moved into Ellendale.They eventually built a new house on the farm and the old family housewas sold andremoved from the site.

Over the years, Milton has been active in community affairs. Heserved on the Fullerton School Board for nine years, participated inthe PTO, Music Boosters, National Farmer's Organization (NFO),Yorktown Township Board member, Fullerton Fire Department, ElevatorBoard member, Community Betterment Committee, and CentennialCommittee.

Milton has also been an active church member, first with the UnitedChurch of Christ where he was Sunday School Superintendant for 20years, choir director, member of the Churchmen's Brotherhood, andassistedwith the Youth Fellowship program and taught Sunday School.When they joined St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monango, Milton servedas an elder and president of the congregation. Milton and Avelon arepresently members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Oakes, North Dakotaand still reside on the farm near Fullerton.
