Pictures from Oakes 4/2009

These pictures (click here to see all pictures) were taken on April 24 and 25 at Oakes and Fullerton, ND where many family members gathered for Milton Ulmer’s funeral.  It was a bittersweet weekend filled with sorrow but also poignant and humorous memories.  It was an opportunity to catch up with cousins, aunts, uncles and in-laws.   There was visitation at Dahlstrom’s Funeral Home on Friday April 24th.  The visitation ran from 3-7 pm.  At 7 pm there was a prayer service along with time for family and friends to share memories.  Afterwards the family met at the “Angry Beaver” restaurant in Oakes.  The funeral was held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oakes on Saturday April 25th at 10:30 a.m.  The funeral was very well attended.  Uncle Milton obviously had many friends.  Lunch was served in the church basement afterwards.   There were sandwiches, many delicious salads and desserts   After lunch there was a procession to the Fullerton Cemetary where the burial service was held.  Afterwards many of us, spent time locating the gravesites of our ancestors.  We then went to the Ulmer farm for more socializing and support (as well as great food).   There was flooding in the area as evidenced by one of the pictures.  We nearly had to take an alternate route to the farm, but as it turned out we were able to make it through.  We wish to extend our continued support, thoughts and prayers to Uncle Milton’s immediate famiy.
